An RCMP officer testifying at this week’s public inquiry into the death of Robert Dziekanski says he feared for his safety when the Polish immigrant pointed a stapler at him. Dziekanski was Tasered 5 times and eventually died after authorities found him causing a disturbance in Vancouver’s airport October 14, 2007.
Four officers in total were dispatched to the airport that day, as Dziekanski wandered aimlessly and began throwing items in an apparent spell of delusion.
Const. Gerry Rundel told the public inquiry into the death of Dziekanski that the stapler the Polish man was holding could have been used as a weapon against the officers or members of the public.
However, several other civilian witnesses who watched Dziekanski before police arrived have testified they were not afraid of him.
They needed to Taser him because he had a stapler? Four men couldn’t wrestle the stapler away or tackle Dziekanski instead?
