The few Winnipeg Goldeyes who travelled south to compete in the Northern League All-Star Game on Tuesday didn’t come home winners — or losers. The Great Plain All-Stars and Great Lakes All-Stars settled on a 5-5 tie in 10 innings. They should have arm wrestled to determine the winner, but that’s beyond the point. The point is, the Fish put out one heck of an effort.
The four pitchers and equal number of position players from Winnipeg all saw action while in Joliet.
Of the 11 Great Plains hits, seven came off Goldeyes bats, including three each from Juan Diaz and Josh Asanovich. Diaz also scored a run and drove in a pair. Dee Brown added a single and, while Dustin Richardson went hitless in two at-bats, he did throw out Schaumburg’s Victor Ferrante trying to steal second for the second out of the tenth inning.
On the mound, Bear Bay earned Pitcher of the Game honours after tossing two scoreless innings of two-hit ball. Aaron Odom and Ace Walker both threw a shutout inning while Matt Davis retired all four batters he faced, including the last two on strikes.
