By David Klassen

A small plane crashed on Lake Winnipeg at around 4:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon, RCMP report.

Two people are lucky to be alive after the single engine aircraft they were travelling in encountered bad weather. The pilot attempted to return from his departure destination of Mantago Bay, but couldn’t make it.

The male pilot walked away from the crash back to his residence, and contacted RCMP and EMS for assistance. Authorities discovered a male passenger was still at the crash site and suffered injuries.

Local residents on snowmobiles transported the passenger from the scene. He and the pilot remain at Pine Falls Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 7 km south of the Manigotogan River.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
