A new talk radio show debuts tonight with Leah Hextall at the helm.

“Amateur Hour” will feature the CTV Winnipeg sports anchor as she interviews the brightest amateur athletes in the province.

The one-hour weekly show on Sports Radio 1290 will also include a pro athlete each week. To kick things off, Eric Fehr from the Washington Capitals will be the first guest.

The 25-year-old Winkler boy was chosen 18th overall by the Capitals in a first-round draft pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The show airs Mondays from 7-8 p.m.

Producer extraordinaire Adam Toy will handle the behind the scenes aspect, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Leah is a bit of flake in the way she deals with people. At least she has a class act like the Big E to start the show off.

I disagree. Leah is personable and knows what she’s talking about. It should be a good show.

    No pressure.

So the “Amateur Hour” will feature a pro athlete every week? Wait, what?! Why bother putting “Amateur” in the title at all? Shouldn’t an AMATEUR athlete be the first guest of the “AMATEUR Hour”?

God forbid Hextall to actually feature one of the province’s curlers (y’know, actual amateur athletes…) from this past weekend’s championship as the first guest of her first show. If the host doesn’t understand her own show, how are listeners expected to care?

Pro athletes get enough coverage during a normal CTV sportscast, they don’t need to take over the radio now too. Give the full hour to amateur athletes Leah!! Make the show live up to its name.

Maybe the “amateur” in the title is referring to the host and not the guests? ;)

    Two things:
1>I think this is a great idea to have a show focused on Amateur athletes. They should get some curling and swimming athletes on the show.

    2>Bring back CURVE.

Who is Adam Toy…and why is the behind the scenes guy even getting a mention. Also I agree with Andrew…BRING BACK CURVE!!!
