Cell Phone Scofflaws Still Not Getting the Message

Another round of Winnipeg drivers were caught putting their lives and those of others at risk this week.

We set up a camera on St. Anne’s Road at Regal Avenue to catch drivers yakking away on their cell phones, despite the hand-held ban that’s been in place for nearly a year.

Watch:

Besides those who risked an almost $200 fine, there were a few impatient motorists who couldn’t wait their turn to cross the median.

In July, we featured another round of videos showcasing scofflaws out and about.

The problem has become so bad, Winnipeg police are having to resort to dressing up in a disguise to nab those who don’t obey.

Crazy. They won’t change until they kill someone.

For every 1 person caught, there’s atleast 20 people who don’t get caught, nothing changes.

A possible solution is to force every cell phone user over the age of 16 to get a blue tooth device for their cell phone installed for their vehicle if their vehicle doesn’t already have blue tooth installed. This would be no different then some provinces who force people to have winter tires on their vehicles during winter.

On the 1yr anniversary of the law, I’m planning a “Caught On Cell” extravaganza, just need to find the right intersection to populate with cameras. I’ve got a thing about reckless driving behaviors.
