Pedestrian Dies in Collision with Car Near Stony Mountain

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in the RM of Rockwood early Sunday morning.

RCMP say the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Road 9 East, west of Stony Mountain.

The 35-year-old male driver was operating a 1992 Honda Accord at the time, when the adult man was hit and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are working to identify the pedestrian, who was not carrying any identification.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Police are continuing to investigate.

UPDATE: July 4, 2011 — The deceased has been identified as a 47-year-old Winnipeg man. His name isn’t being released. No charges are expected against the driver.
