A Winnipeg man is facing charges after allegedly making several false calls to 911.
Police say between July 12 and August 4, emergency personnel received several calls reporting fires and assaults in progress. Upon responding, the calls turned out to be unfounded.
At about 3 a.m. on Saturday, the man called 911 from a payphone in the 600 block of Balmoral Street to report a non-existent fire in the area. Police later located the suspect and took him into custody.
The 28-year-old is charged with seven counts of public mischief and seven counts of harassing telephone calls. He was released on a promise to appear.
