Winnipeg has ended its national search for a new fire chief.
John Lane will assume his new duties next month with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service after transferring from Prince George, B.C. Lane held a similar role out west, and also senior positions with emergency services in Toronto and Hamilton.
Lane has 32 years of career experience and will take over for acting chief Bill Clark on April 14.
Winnipeg dismissed its former fire chief, Reid Douglas, in September amid the fire hall scandal that plagued City Hall last fall.
