Police Warn Not to Leave Pets Unattended in Vehicles

With temperatures soaring into the 30s in recent days, Winnipeg police are reminding pet owners to not leave their furry companions unattended inside vehicles.

Several reports of pets being left inside cars during the daytime heat have been made to police in recent days.

“Even on a warm day with a vehicle parked in the shade and windows slightly open, extreme temperatures can be reached which can have a devastating impact on any animal,” police warned in a release.

Police say if you see an animal in a parked vehicle this summer, and are concerned for its well-being, notify management of the business closest to the vehicle in attempt to locate the owner as soon as possible. If an owner can’t be located, contact police.
