Contestants in this year’s Festival du Voyageur Beard Growing Contest will be doing it with heart.

The annual clean-shave event is Thursday, signalling the start of months of facial hair growth in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

The 10-week growth will be kick-started by the staff from Berns and Black, who will pull out the razors at Garage Café in St. Boniface.

Participants will be growing their beards until February 20. Categories include the Voyageur Beard (wild and woolly) and the Novelty category (groomed moustache or beard).

Participants must be 18+ and registration fee is $35, however participants who will have collected more than $100 in donations will be exempt of the registration fee.

Each participant will receive a souvenir package, including the official event T-shirt and a 10-day pass for the Festival du Voyageur, running February 13-22.

The official launch is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 166 Provencher Boulevard.
