Two people who police say refused to pay their restaurant bill early Friday were struck by a vehicle shortly after fleeing the restaurant.
Winnipeg police were called to the 1500 block of Regent Avenue at around 12:15 a.m. after getting a call from staff.
Before officers could arrive, the intoxicated 38-year-old man and 41-year-old woman left the restaurant and crossed Regent Avenue near Stapon Road on foot heading north. They crossed both east and westbound lanes before being hit by a westbound truck in the curb lane.
The woman was sent to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable. The man sustained non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Police closed the roadway to traffic for several hours while they investigated.
