KILLARNEY, Man. – A mother and her young daughter are recovering in hospital after spending a frigid night huddled together, futilely waiting for help after their car slid off a rural road near Killarney, Man., and rolled down an embankment.

According to a Go Fund Me page set up to help the family, Kristen Hiebert suffered broken arms, and injuries to her neck, ribs and leg in the crash on Sunday night.

The temperature at the time was about -23 with a wind chill making it even colder.

The fundraising page says when no one stopped, the desperate mother mustered the strength the next morning to crawl to the road and flag down a passing motorist.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene at about 6 a.m. and Hiebert was airlifted to Winnipeg.

Loved ones started the fundraising page to help with the recovery costs, and has already neared its goal of $15,000.
