WAWA, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police say two Manitoba residents are facing charges following the seizure of thousands of unmarked cigarettes in northwestern Ontario.
They say a vehicle was stopped late Saturday night on Highway 101 in McMurray Township for an alleged traffic violation.
OPP say that during the stop the officers allegedly saw several cartons of unmarked cigarettes.
It’s alleged a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 53,600 unmarked cigarettes.
Fifty-five-year-old Michael Mitchell and 37-year-old Dawn Holli Wiebe, both of Winnipeg, are charged with possession of unmarked cigarettes for sale and possession of unmarked cigarettes contrary.
Mitchell and Wiebe are to appear in court in Wawa, Ont., in May.
