Air Canada Launches iPhone App
Posted by Tyler Sutherland
Air Canada was the first Canadian airline to launch an app for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch on Thursday. The company said the app will help customers monitor both Air Canada and Jazz flights for arrival and departure times, along with any cancellations. They didn’t remind customers that their website already does that.
Air Canada also said it will add additional features based on customer demand.
As an iPhone user, I’m a bit puzzled. There are already a handful of applications that track flights, including Air Canada’s. Also, WestJet seems to be the leader in Canadian air travel and they were beaten to the punch by AC?
If this is something of interest to you, you can download it by going to the iTunes store.

God, I can’t stand Air Canada. They should be abolished. But I guess it’s good to keep them around for competition sake. Wouldn’t want WestJet to end up jacking up fares.

Great point. I thought that Westjet would be the one hip enough to get the app to the iPhone too – but to have AC beat them to the punch? My thought is that there are some AC exec’s that have iPhones and are passionate enough that they launched the development. Sure, there are lots of other apps that do the same thing, but I thought it was a great idea. I also think that it’s not that great. I tried to track my daughters flight with it – and she called me from the car even before the darn thing registered that her flight had arrived……. Nuff said. Somewhere close to real time would be better. NO point in tracking the past.
