Minimum Wage Increasing to $9 on October 1

Canadian MoneyMinimum wage will increase by 25 cents in Manitoba to $9 on October 1, the province announced today.

Labour and Immigration Minister Nancy Allan said, “It is important to continue to help lower-income earners by boosting spending power while at the same time minimizing impacts on business with the staggered increase. This minimum wage increase will help about 28,000 Manitobans.”

Manitoba’s minimum wage has increased incrementally from $6 an hour in 1999.

Future minimum wage increases will be examined and considered down the road.

    I think what Nancy meant to say was “It is important to continue to raise the minimum wage so that those in the middle class and not part of a union will find they have less money in their pockets due to inflation. This minimum wage increase will hurt more Manitobans then it will help.”
