Riot Breaks Out at Brandon Jail
Several emergency vehicles responded to the Brandon Correctional Centre on Sunday afternoon after reports of a riot.
Our friends at eBrandon.ca were on the scene as officers tried to maintain order inside the jail, in which a fight broke out between two different groups. According to police, jail guards had to use tear gas to subdue several inmates.
UPDATE: 6:29 p.m. — According to CTV News, the incident started at about 12:25 p.m. and involved 27 inmates. There was one injury reported, but it is said to be minor. The situation now appears to be under control.
UPDATE: 6:49 p.m. — The province has issued a news release regarding this incident, which reads in part:
There were no escapes reported from the facility and so far only one minor injury has been reported. A total of approximately 282 inmates were in the institution at the time of the incident and the remaining 255 inmates are in lockdown and were not involved. Responders remain on the scene. There will be a full investigation of the incident.

Ok, I had a car full of gear and drove by that place without knowing anything was going on. I could have gotten some sweet video. Auurrrgg..
