Bell, Telus Launching iPhone Next Month
Posted by Tyler Sutherland
Bell and Telus will begin carrying the Apple iPhone in November, according to tech insiders. Neither company, nor Apple, has officially made the announcement, but are expected to as early as today or tomorrow. This opens up the marketplace to take on Rogers Communications, which has been the sole carrier of the device since its Canadian launch.
Bell — the Canadian backbone to MTS Allstream — and Telus announced a year ago that they would build the HSPA network together, which will deliver high-speed mobile access to 93% of the Canadian population across more than a million square kilometres. This new network will be pivotal in the iPhone’s performance across the country and will also launch next month.
There’s no word on how much the iPhone will cost on each carrier, or if any new data plans will be added, but we’ll keep you updated.
Our e-mail to a MTS spokesperson regarding the iPhone wasn’t returned on Monday.
UPDATE: 12:30 p.m. – Both Bell Canada and Telus Corp. have officially confirmed that they will begin selling the iPhone next month.

I am almost upset that I purchased an iPhone just 2 months ago now. I was with MTS for 3 years, and never had a problem (besides poor service everywhere in Canada). But I really wanted a smart phone, and imo the iPhone is the best. I have been pleased so far, sometimes using it out in the country for web access, as it is faster then the still ancient dial-up only internet available outside the city.
Bell’s next move should be to push a much cheaper data plan, vs the ridiculous plans Rogers has to offer.
