No “The” in MTS Centre’s Name
It’s a common mistake made by many when referring to the MTS Centre, and now the arena wants to correct it.
On Tuesday, officials said the proper name is simply MTS Centre, not “the” MTS Centre.
Although, the company is guilty of their little faux pas themselves. Previous news releases sent out have occasionally included the word “the” before the name.
While we’re on this topic, and despite what you may have read in other local print media, it’s “centre,” not “center.”
Class dismissed.

Whatever it’s called, it needs an NHL franchise in there 45 nights a year, or sports-wise.. hockey-wise… the place will go to waste.

It depends on the context. You wouldn’t say “we’re going to MTS centre tonight.”
As a comparison the Bell Centre in Montreal is referred to as ‘le centre Bell’ and ‘the Bell centre’ reguarly.
