The traditional media's big argument for itself over blogs is: "We're better. We check our facts. We have editors."

And how's that working out for you?

There might be a couple of errors on the part of the person who put the montage together, but the message is clear...CTV is putting their credibility at risk with each error. How can we assume that they "fact check" when they can't "spell check"?

first off, i think the name should be changed to she ain't gettin it, cuz that was a nasty attack for no reason. the ironic thing is you're posting that comment on a website dedicated to discussing local media so you're just as loser-ish as the rest us on here, hey?

secondly, the timing of posting something like that is perfect considering the network and stations are all pleading to show how much we need them. cameraman is right, is this a good display of the quality of journalism we're getting from "manitoba's number 1 newscast"? if it's noticeable things like spelling, how can we trust the information we're getting from the source? as a crecommer, we fail an assignment if there's a spelling mistake. we FAIL. we learned the hard way that if you want to be taken seriously in journalism, you need to be accurate 100 per cent of the time. it's also a slap in the face to us hardworking students that strive to have a job in the industry, knowing how hard it is to get a break, and the people at ctv winnipeg obviously don't care enough to check facts and/or spelling.

thirdly, i think what chrisd and jb are doing is great. i applaud their creativity and entrepreneurialism. isn't that something we all strive for? being our own boss, do what we love to do and get paid for it? (or is it "payed"?!?!) you've got someone like chrisd who is well respected by media outlets and pr professionals all over the city that he gets details and comment about things that most media outlets don't publicize. after checking out jb's websites, he's got celebrity interviews and radio shows heard around the world. that's not something that just falls into your lap. they have both worked hard and a little sarcasm doesn't hurt anybody, so it's not right to discredit their efforts. granted, the laugh might be at someone else's expense, but it's also there to prove a point. there's a campaign to save the station when blatant spelling errors are just a small blemish in the station's reputation at this point. i agree that nobody's perfect, but if any of those ctv'ers went to crecomm, i wonder how many assignments they failed. but at the end of the day, i guess they're the ones laughing because they've got a job that most of us students want to have some day.

i will step off my soapbox now. thanks.

If CTV bothered to check on these things, they might have dealt with the Font problems after the first 10 or 20 errors, instead nothing is done, and 50 errors come & go. The real tell is next week. They've been spanked publicly about this issue, lets see if they take steps to correct it.

In one picture they show that "James' Mother" or whatever should be "James's". I was always taught that because the name ends in "s" you don't need to add the " 's " to the end of it, cause it pluralizes it's self.

They obviously don't have a standards bible that they go by. Pretty bad. It's rare to find someone who is good with graphics AND can font entry.

On-Air graphics systems are so complicated these days, you really need to dedicate all your time to just that position.
