Popcorn Isn’t Healthy For You: New Study
Posted by Brian Schultz
Excuse the title, but everyone already knew popcorn wasn’t healthy anyway. After reading the following information released on Wednesday, you may never eat the salty snack at the movies again.
A new study conducted by the Center for Science and Public Interest found that consuming a medium size popcorn and pop is the same as eating 12 pats of butter, followed by three Quarter Pounders from McDonald’s. Yuck.
Even sharing a small popcorn (670 calories) is about the same as a day’s worth of saturated fat. Adding butter to any quantity of popcorn, of course, increases the fat intake.
The study came out on the same day as new numbers in the U.S. suggested that by 2018, 40% of Americans will be obese. The most at-risk states for bursting at the waistline include Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

Are you kidding with the misleading headline? How about qualifying it with the word “movie”?
Popcorn without all of the salt and butter is one of the healthiest snacks that you can eat.

Totally agreeing with DW – this is extremely misleading. Microwave popcorn isn’t nearly this bad – and air popped popcorn with no butter/margarine (or even just a teaspoon or two) is not that bad. Come on now – everything in moderation. Even eating one bag of movie theatre popcorn one or twice a month is not going to kill you.

The study is misleading as all get out. Saturated fats are not all alike. Coconut oil is the source of the saturated fats in movie popcorn. So long as the coconut oil is not hydrogenated, it is very healthy.
The calories are another story. 1200 calories of anything is a lot of calories.

“unhealthy” unless you make it yourself with a HotAir popper and go easy on the salt&butter. Then you’ve got a snack more nutritious then most everything else out there.

One more thing – did you know popcorn is considered a whole grain? Eat it! Grains are good for you! Everything in moderation!
