The Manitoba government has extended the requirement for farmers to obtain permits to burn stubble. The reason behind the move is due to the unusually late fall season.

More farmers are burning off crop residue later this year, as you’ve likely noticed by the smoke in the air during the last few days.

The below video was shot Thursday northwest of Winnipeg near Grosse Isle.

Previously, the requirement for permits was November 15, but farmers now have until December 4. Permits can be requested by calling 1-800-265-1233. More information is available by visiting gov.mb.ca/agriculture

Failure to produce a permit while burning stubble could result in a fine over $2,000.
