Global TV’s Eva Kovacs Resigns
![]()

Longtime Global TV Winnipeg news anchor Eva Kovacs is the latest employee to call it quits at the Canwest-owned television station. This would make departure #4 in recent months, as employees (all women) look to secure careers elsewhere.
Eva reportedly resigned on Wednesday, and it wasn’t immediately known if a replacement is lined up to sit alongside Peter Chura.
Maybe the station can start sending out press releases or something if this is going to be a frequent occurrence? Ha! We wish.
Our apologies to news director Jon Lovlin, who we’re sure really appreciates reading these kinds of posts.
Eva’s last day will be December 18.
UPDATE: Eva tells ChrisD.ca she is heading to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority to work as part of their communications team beginning in the New Year.

Good move Eva! You’re up next Lorraine, Lindsay, Nicole and Nelly…

This is sad news. Eva was probably the most professional anchor in this city. I really appreciated her style of news delivery. A great contrast to the hands-always-waving, over-emphasized, golly-gee kind of delivery that Barb Stewart serves up, and the IQ-numbing banter between Gord LeClerc and whoever his co-anchor is. Eva belongs in a bigger market and on a better news package. Good luck to her!

I wish Barb from CKY was back, but it’s Janet we are stuck with.
Did you know Janet is narrating the Nutcracker this week for the ballet or whatever. The most eloquent orator in Winnipeg. Nice get.

Barbara Lee-Edwards ya mean? She is still in San Diego I think doing CBS news there or so… dunno on that.. as for the co-anchor with Gord LeClerc, that would be Maralee Caruso, who I might add is really funny as well and a nice sight on tv… and Janet Stewart did a good job when she was with CKY but now that she over at CBC Winnipeg, I dunno how she doing since I only watch CTV Winnipeg news that’s all….

I can’t remember the exact time when Eva came to Shaw for WorkEd during her CreeComm days, but I do recall she had that ‘it’ , the jeu-nes-sai-quoi that a person needs to front a news cast.
Wish her all the best in the new gig.
Crystal would be the next logical person to take the desk, she’s pretty smooth.

This is sad news for Winnipeg. After having the pleasure of meeting Eva a few times you realize she delivered the news as a regular citizen not some stuck up celebrity like that of the CTV News team.
The real question is
A. Will global keep the Co-Anchor thing at 6?
B. Who will replace her at 10 and 11 for the meantime?
C. Will they hire internally or will we see an intirely new face?
We will just have to wait and see

ladies and gentlemen, your new anchor… Shannon Martin

Losing Eva Kovacs is a big loss for that station. She’s a veteran in the biz and was enjoyable to watch. Most of the other peeps on Global tv “pretend” to be anchors and reporters. I hope they look outside for her replacement and they hire someone with experience.

Too bad she’s married… still hot though.

Eva was a joy to watch and came across as a really genuine person. It’s unfortunate we won’t be seeing her on TV anymore.

Where is this new reporter Laura White that Chris D. posted about before? I haven’t seen her yet.

If global is smart it will hire from outside. Nicole, Lindsay and Lorraine are all totally brutal.

This sounds like the beginning of the end of Global Winnipeg.

let’s take a poll.. who’s hotter? lindsay warner or nicole dube? i can’t decide. both of these ladies are smoooookin!! hopefully they don’t leave. i’ll stop watching for good.
December 4th, 2009 at 8:16 am
Tough call on who is hotter but if I had to make the call I would say Lindsay.

Say it ain’t so Eva! I loved watching you and Peter every night… you will be missed.
And thx to ChrisD for letting everyone know about these personnel moves!

They’re both hot, but Lindsay seems to have more of a “wild side” that I’d love to see up close!
December 5th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Let’s just say I’ve seen Lindsey out at the clubs…and the girl likes to have a good time!
December 5th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
both nicole and lindsay have boyfriends I think.

Press releases aren’t that bad of an idea. I’d understand not wanting to send one out when an employee leaves, but when a new on-air anchor/reporter is hired, why wouldn’t they want people to know? Radio stations send out press releases when they hire new talent. Why not TV?

Eva Kovacs will be missed. I think she’s HOT! Her replacement Shannon Martin is very cute though.
