McLean Family Sues Greyhound, Attorney General and Li

The family of Tim McLean, the 22-year-old Winnipeg man who was murdered and beheaded aboard a Greyhound bus in late July, are suing the bus company, the Attorney General of Canada and Vincent Li, the accused killer.
The lawsuit is on behalf of 13 family members, and claims that Greyhound and the federal government failed to put in place proper safety measures. Tim’s mother spoke to the media last week about being furious over the fact the RCMP did not stop Li from mutilating her son’s remains. The RCMP are named in the lawsuit in hopes of getting answers on why they waited almost 5 hours to apprehend Li.
The lawsuit details five previous incidents, and one incident that took place after the murder aboard Greyhound buses, says family lawyer Jay Prober. The family is seeking $30,000 for each parent, and $10,000 for each additional family member.
Vincent Weiguang Li, 40, is charged with second-degree murder and makes his next court appearance September 8th in Portage la Prairie, MB.

I could understand suing Greyhound for lack of security measures, but not so much the other two. Li is clearly insane. I’m not sure what they hope to get from him. As for the RCMP, I know the mother was upset they didn’t shoot and kill Li during the standoff…the police can’t win one way or the other it seems.

The family has a case when it comes to Greyhound not providing proper safety measures, the RCMP… well, that one is debatable. As far as Li, he delivered newspapers, so what little money he probably does have is almost useless.
Hopefully the outcome satisfies the family’s need for justice.
