Winnipeg Liberal Candidate Dumped by Dion

Liberal candidate Lesley Hughes for Kildonan–St. Paul was dropped by party leader Stéphane Dion on Friday.
This comes after an article Hughes wrote following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In the article Hughes suggested that Israeli businesses in the Twin Towers had prior knowledge of the attacks, because they had evacuated the building a week before.
Peter Kent, Thornhill Conservative candidate, said earlier Friday that Hughes’ failure to apologize for her comments makes her unfit for public office and Stéphane Dion should fire her immediately.
Unlike Stephen Harper, who had one of his ministers cracking jokes about the listeriosis deaths, Dion showed leadership and took action immediately.

The Free Press neglected to credit the ‘local blogger’ that broke the story, or provide any link to either that blog or to the online copy of her original article. Fine reporting eh.
Also Dion did not take action ‘immediately’ but rather sloughed it off to the Canadian Jewish Congress. It was only after they rejected her apology (which was no apology at all) that he axed her candidacy.

Funny you bring up the issue of the ‘local blogger’ — I’m actually going to touch on that issue in tomorrow’s post.
The Free Press did link to the same article I have above, but I’m not sure if it’s still on their site or not.
