Sylvia Kuzyk to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

This flew under the radar for us last week, and we forgot to mention CTV Winnipeg’s Sylvia Kuzyk will be honoured with the 2010 RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Along with fellow broadcaster Bob Layton, Sylvia will receive her award June 17 in Edmonton at the RTNDA National Conference.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who [...]

CTV’s Lloyd Robertson Squashes Retirement Rumours

Legendary “CTV National News” anchor Lloyd Robertson was rumoured to be retiring after the 2010 Vancouver Olympics wrap up in a few weeks. According to a blog post on Macleans.ca Tuesday morning — that sourced former CTV reporter David Akin — Robertson was to meet with CTV brass on March 3 to resign.
But Tuesday afternoon, [...]

Monday’s Blizzard News Roundup

Did Global TV and CBC wait for the storm to pass Monday before doing their stand ups? Lightweights.

Who had the best storm coverage? It’s negligible, but CTV’s Jill Macyshon pulled a CNN and faced the elements head on.
If it counts, Waub Rice picked up a shovel at one point, but we didn’t see him use it. [...]

Wishful Thinking Won’t Bring Caribbean Weather

We know the temperatures will be favourable today for mid-January, but CTV Winnipeg is getting a little carried away.

Somebody keep Caroline Barghout away from the keyboard.

Who Had the Best Olympic Torch Relay Coverage?

You already know the Olympic Torch Relay was in Winnipeg on Tuesday, which meant the six o’clock newscasts were going live from along the route.
By late afternoon, a number of live trucks and dishes were being set up. It was the lead story on all three major newscasts, but which station outdid the other?

A couple [...]

CTV Producers Flee to the Competition

Being a supervising news producer at Winnipeg’s most-watched television station is a pretty important position. That’s why it was surprising to see two job postings for the positions on MediaJobSearchCanada.com.

According to a source, both the supervising news producer and promotion producer have bolted from CTV Winnipeg and now work at CBC Manitoba. Interesting.
By the way, [...]

Local TV Spelling Doesn’t Matter

One of the stipulations the CRTC should put in place if local TV ends up getting a bailout is to hire proofreaders.
You’ve seen similar CTV spelling mistakes back in May, but we were just sent a new batch courtesy of a local viewer. The errors appear in the on air graphics.
To be fair, nobody’s perfect, [...]

Shaneen Robinson Leaving CTV Post

Viewers may notice one less face on their evening newscast soon, as CTV Winnipeg reporter Shaneen Robinson prepares to leave her term position. Shaneen replaced Eleanor Coopsammy, who has been on maternity leave for the past year.
“It’s been such an amazing gig, I really hate to go,” Shaneen said.
Prior to CTV, Shaneen worked at NCI [...]

Caroline Barghout — “Oh No, I Gotta Go”

Those were the words that barely made it out of Caroline Barghout’s mouth on Saturday night as she ran away from the weather map hysterical with laughter.
The CTV News anchor couldn’t keep it together — which is the case most of the time when she sits alongside Leah Hextall. This is pure awesomeness.

‘They’re’ Over ‘There’ … Misspelling ‘Their’ Words

While hurricane watchers risk their lives, CTV News editors are risking their jobs.
