Airport Traffic, Revenues Down in Fourth Quarter Results

The Winnipeg Airports Authority released their fourth quarter results for 2009 on Wednesday.
Passenger traffic was down 2.95% at James Richardson International Airport from the same period last year. Revenues were also slightly down — $19.9 million, compared to $21.3 million in 2008 during the same period.

Military Plane Makes Emergency Landing at YWG

A Canadian Forces aircraft made an emergency landing at Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport Friday afternoon.
A problem with the plane’s hydraulic system made it difficult to steer, but the landing gear was successfully deployed.

Flights from Winnipeg to Iceland Starting in June

Beginning in June, travellers wanting to fly from Winnipeg to Iceland will have a new way of doing so.
Iceland Express will fly twice a week from the beginning of June, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. With the addition of Winnipeg, the airline’s destinations will increase to 27 — a historic high.

Two Winnipeg men are facing drug charges after agents from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized 1,009 tablets of OxyContin (above) during an inspection of an Air Cargo shipment. Layoffs Coming to Manitoba Greyhound Workers

UPDATE: Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux said late today that service will continue for Greyhound passengers and there will be no layoffs. Both the government and Greyhound are working on both short- and long-term solutions to fix the financial state of the bus line.

Greyhound to Cease Operations in Manitoba, NW Ontario

This is a shocker. Greyhound Canada will cease operations in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
The company said today in a release that it’s giving 30 days notice to the Manitoba Highway Traffic Board. Ontario’s board will receive 90 days notice.
Greyhound is also reviewing operations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
