Sylvia Kuzyk to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

This flew under the radar for us last week, and we forgot to mention CTV Winnipeg’s Sylvia Kuzyk will be honoured with the 2010 RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Time Lapse of Snow Storm in Washington

Washington, D.C. was pummeled by a snow storm last weekend, and before today is over, forecasters predict an additional 30 cm.
The following video has been making the rounds of an amazing time lapse. It was apparently shot with a Nikon D200.

U.S. Weatherman Freaks Out Over Weekend Storm

A powerful snow storm hammered parts of the U.S. over the weekend, with Washington, D.C. taking the brunt of it. The thought of “14 to 22 inches of snow” — dubbed ‘Snowmageddon’ — was too much for this AccuWeather.com weatherman to handle.

City Declares Overnight Residential Parking Ban

Plowing of residential streets will begin Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., the city said today.
To help crews work efficiently, an overnight parking ban is in effect Wednesday night at midnight. That means you can’t park on any street between midnight and 6 a.m. not designated a snow route.

Did Global TV and CBC wait for the storm to pass Monday before doing their stand ups? Lightweights.

Who had the best storm coverage? It’s negligible, but CTV’s Jill Macyshon pulled a CNN and faced the elements head on.

Blizzard Cancellations and Closures Bulletin

Winnipeg police have closed Saskatchewan Avenue between Hamilton Avenue and Buchanan Boulevard due to poor visibility and large snow drifts. The advisory was issued at about 5:15 p.m.
RCMP say the eastbound passing lanes of Highway 101 are snow packed between McPhillips Street and Main Street. Motorists should keep to the right hand lane.

No Easy Task Driving in These Conditions (VIDEO)

There’s a few differences between the video we shot below Monday morning, and the footage the Free Press shot during the same time period. First, our photog actually got out of his vehicle and stood on the side of the highway. Secondly, he refrained from dropping the F-bomb in the process.

Blizzard Forces Road Closures (PHOTOS)

A semi truck with Florida plates (above) sits at the road closure south of St. Norbert on Highway 75 Monday morning.
The highway is closed all the way to Emerson due to poor visibility.
Meanwhile, visibility on the Perimeter Highway was next to nothing, as cars crawled to avoid hitting the ditch, and each other.

Overnight Parking Ban in Effect to Clear Drifting Snow

Think twice about where you park your car tonight. The city has issued an overnight parking ban from midnight to 6 a.m.
That means you can’t park on Priority 1 and 2 streets, which includes regional streets, bus routes, and collector streets.
