WINNIPEG — Corus Entertainment has cut ties with 99.1 Fresh Radio morning host Vicki Shae.

Shae had hosted “Fresh Mornings” since early 2015 when the station rebranded itself from the former Fresh FM.

In a Facebook post, Shae said restructuring led to her departure from the station.

Corus EntertainmentWINNIPEG — Corus Entertainment has laid off another round of staff from all three of their Winnipeg radio stations.

On-air talent received the grim news Tuesday morning, including Power 97 morning co-host TJ Connors and fellow rock personality Holly Bausman. Also released is Mandy Shew from 99.1 Fresh FM, and anchors Lorne Edwards and April Anderson from 680 CJOB.

Sources say the layoffs weren’t based on performance, but came from a business standpoint as the company restructures itself to find efficiencies.

WINNIPEG — 99.1 Fresh FM has found a new morning show co-host to join Sarah Christie.

JD Francis, most recently of Energy 106, will begin at the Corus Entertainment station in early February.

“Can’t reveal too much yet, but I can say I’m pumped and can’t wait for this next challenge,” Francis wrote in a Facebook post, which garnered nearly 200 comments.

Fresh FM abruptly parted ways with morning host Matt Sutton on January 8 after almost two years.

WINNIPEG — 99.1 Fresh FM has let go of morning show host Matt Sutton.

The Australian import joined the Corus Entertainment station in February 2013 alongside former co-host Jennifer David. Until Thursday, he had been one half of the morning duo with Sarah Christie.

“Extremely sad to announce that this morn was the last show on @991FreshFM. Thank you for welcoming me & embracing me Wpg. I’m deeply shocked,” Sutton tweeted.

General manager Scott Armstrong declined to comment when reached by e-mail.

Donation of Empties to Help St. Norbert Fire Victims

99.1 Fresh FM Empties DriveA Winnipeg radio station is stepping up to help fundraise for two families displaced from their homes last week after a fire in St. Norbert.

99.1 Fresh FM will be broadcasting live from Grant Park Shopping Centre on Saturday, December 6 for their “Empties Drive.” Listeners are asked to drop off empty bottles and cans, raising funds for the families affected.

The fire at 78 Payment Street on November 26 spread to a neighbouring home before damaging a third. Everyone made it out safely.

Corus EntertainmentCorus Entertainment Winnipeg let several employees go Monday morning, just as the fall ratings measuring period is to begin next week.

Gone from 680 CJOB is Robert Holland, Jim Jones and Graham Mosimann (music director) from Power 97, and Adam Taylor and Kristin Bibik from 99.1 Fresh FM.

Corus also terminated an engineer and a receptionist.

Numeris will measure September 1 to October 26 for the fall period, with ratings to be released on November 27.

Corus Entertainment will launch two new morning radio shows Monday morning in the Winnipeg market.

News-talk leader 680 CJOB will be anchored by Richard Cloutier and Kathy Kennedy as part of “Winnipeg’s Morning News.”

Hal Anderson recently held the reigns on morning show duties before being let go earlier this month.

Down the hall at sister station 99.1 Fresh FM, host Matt Sutton will be joined by a new co-host, Sarah Christie. The former 99.9 BOB FM intern returns to the city after most recently spending time at 2Day FM in Niagara Falls. Her last day on the air was Thursday.
