Winnipeg Welcomes the Nation at Canada Summer Games

Winnipeg is welcoming the nation over the next 17 days as the 2017 Canada Summer Games kicked off Friday at Bell MTS Place.

About 10,000 people were expected to attend the opening ceremonies, which included a parade of competitors from provinces across the country, plus the sounds of Serena Ryder, Quebec singer Coeur de Pirate, and Winnipeg’s own The Bros. Landreth with two members of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet dancing in front of them.

After selling out shows across the US on the first leg of his ‘lots of shows in a row’ tour, deadmau5 is bringing the tour into Canada, including a stop in Winnipeg.

The electronic music producer will play the Bell MTS Place on his new and aptly named ‘lots of shows in a row: pt 2’ tour, Oct. 31.

The Winnipeg Jets will face the new Vegas Golden Knights three times during the 2017-18 NHL regular season.

The Jets travel to Nevada on November 10 as part of their 82-game schedule, which was released on Thursday.

WINNIPEG — MTS Centre has a new name. Following the acquisition of MTS by Bell earlier this year for $3.9 billion, Bell MTS is carrying on business under its new name. That means some changes are afoot at Winnipeg’s busiest entertainment venue.

The home of the Winnipeg Jets will now be known as Bell MTS Place.
