WINNIPEG – Pre-season or not, if they wanted validation for signing Jussi Jokinen the Edmonton Oilers got it Wednesday night.

Jokinen had a goal and two assists as Edmonton beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in pre-season action.

WINNIPEG – Ryan Malone found a good way to get noticed in his come-back attempt with the Minnesota Wild.

The 37-year-old forward, who has almost 650 NHL games on his resume, scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift the Wild to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets in pre-season play Monday.

True North Sports + Entertainment raced through eight months of construction after three years of planning to spruce up the home of the Jets.

Winnipeg is welcoming the nation over the next 17 days as the 2017 Canada Summer Games kicked off Friday at Bell MTS Place.

About 10,000 people were expected to attend the opening ceremonies, which included a parade of competitors from provinces across the country, plus the sounds of Serena Ryder, Quebec singer Coeur de Pirate, and Winnipeg’s own The Bros. Landreth with two members of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet dancing in front of them.

The Winnipeg Jets will face the new Vegas Golden Knights three times during the 2017-18 NHL regular season.

The Jets travel to Nevada on November 10 as part of their 82-game schedule, which was released on Thursday.
