Easter weekend will be a busy time at Assiniboine Park Zoo, with seasonal activities planned daily for visitors of all ages.

With students out of school next week, the zoo is also planning several seasonal offerings to keep kids busy and entertained.

“Spring break is a great time to rediscover the zoo and we’re looking forward to celebrating Easter with lots of fun activities for kids of all ages,” said Gary Lunsford, head of zoological operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

The power of social media will dictate how much money and food is raised to bolster Siloam Mission’s annual easter dinner this weekend.

During its fifth annual #Shop4Siloam charity event on Wednesday, the Winnipeg food bank will be soliciting donations by utilizing Twitter through a partnership with ICUC.

“We truly enjoy being involved with this very important and worthy cause that helps the less fortunate in Winnipeg,” said ICUC CEO Keith Bilous, setting the bar high for another successful event. “Each year we try to beat the previous year’s goals and this year we intend to set new records.”

Siloam Mission Serving Easter Dinner to the Homeless

Siloam Mission will serve up an Easter feast for Winnipeg’s homeless community later today.

About 80 members of the Manitoba Real Estate Association will help prepare and serve Siloam Mission’s big Easter dinner. The group has also provided most of the food necessary to prepare the meal, and will be joined by volunteers from Manitoba Lotteries.

The drop-in centre will be decorated for the 500-700 guests expected to attend between noon and 2:30 p.m.

The homeless shelter provides the annual dinner so clients can celebrate the holiday in a traditional way.

Rabbits Don’t Make Good Pets at Easter: WHS

Easter BunnyThinking of adopting a bunny this Easter weekend? The Winnipeg Humane Society is advising against it.

The WHS says while adopting a rabbit may be tempting at this time of year, giving them as surprise pets is never a good idea.

“Rabbits require as much work as a dog or a cat; they need supervised exercise 2-3 hours a day,” the Humane Society said in a release. “Many rabbits are easily frightened when held, and therefore not suitable for families with young children.”
