According to the website of KISS frontman Gene Simmons, the rockers are headed to Manitoba this summer.

A post on GeneSimmons.com says KISS will play Brandon on July 18 and Winnipeg on July 22. No venues are listed on the website.

Nothing official has been announced by the concert promoter confirming the Canadian tour dates.

Simmons was awarded Winnipeg’s key to the city in June 2011.

UPDATE: The website has since removed the Manitoba dates.

Winnipeg Gives Gene Simmons Key to the City

KISS bassist Gene Simmons was given the key to the City of Winnipeg Wednesday during a ceremony at City Hall.

Watch:

St. Vital councillor Gord Steeves presented Simmons with the honour on behalf of Mayor Sam Katz, who is in Israel on business this week.

Simmons is in town to speak tonight at the Centennial Concert Hall as part of his Rich and Famous Tour.

The key to the city is often given to celebrities and athletes who visit Winnipeg. Some previous recipients have included Milt Stegall, Sir Bob Geldof, Jon Montgomery and Henry Winkler.

Simmons, the son of a Holocaust survivor, received the honour for “his life and career overcoming challenges and creating success in business and family by remaining true to his roots and values,” according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

Season six of Simmons’ reality TV show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” premiered Tuesday night on A&E.

Simmons’ longtime Canadian girlfriend Shannon Tweed ,who also attended the afternoon ceremony, recently walked off during an interview with the rocker on CNN’s “The Joy Behar Show.” Rumours have been swirling that the couple of 28 years are splitting up, but is likely a PR stunt to promote the new season of their show. The full interview is scheduled to air tonight at 9 p.m. CT.

KISS Blames Media for Oshawa’s Sour Grapes

KISS Blames Media for Oshawa’s Sour Grapes

KISS LogoRock band KISS announced its North American tour dates this week, including Winnipeg, but one special Canadian city was left off the list.

Oshawa, Ontario was voted as the number 1 spot for KISS to come when the band held its online fan-routed tour contest earlier this year. Many KISS fans in Oshawa were upset that their city wasn’t on the list; but it was all part of a surprise the band had planned for the most KISS-friendly city.

Gene Simmons said that the band left Oshawa off the list on purpose, to announce in person they would be playing there. The plan was to launch their new album, “Sonic Boom,” in the Ontario city and formally make the big announcement.

Simmons said he was “pissed off” that the media made such a fuss about the band supposedly snubbing Oshawa.

The city’s mayor, along with fans, have let it go and are just happy to be included when KISS plays General Motors Center on October 7.

Ticket information for Winnipeg’s November 9 show hasn’t been released yet.

KISS Band

It looks like all of our votes paid off, because legendary rock band KISS is coming to Winnipeg on Monday, November 9. The band announced its North American tour dates earlier this morning.

For months now, people have been voting to determine where KISS will play during their next tour. Winnipeg was at the top of the list for weeks, until being bumped down a few spots, but that doesn’t appear to matter anymore, as we’re definitely getting a show.

Ticket information has yet to be announced, but you can bet it’s going to be one heck of a show.

Other Canadian stops include London, Montreal, Toronto, Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver.

KISS

Back in April, Winnipeg held the #1 spot on a list of cities that KISS could be touring to. The band is doing a complete fan-routed tour based on votes from locations across North America.

Winnipeg was at the top of the list, until those bums in Oshawa, Ontario kicked us down to #2.

It’s time for our city to regain its top position, so vote now!

Note to 92 CITI FM and Power 97: It wouldn’t hurt to encourage your listeners to rock the vote as well.
