WINNIPEG — MTS Centre has a new name. Following the acquisition of MTS by Bell earlier this year for $3.9 billion, Bell MTS is carrying on business under its new name. That means some changes are afoot at Winnipeg’s busiest entertainment venue.

The home of the Winnipeg Jets will now be known as Bell MTS Place.

Deal Closes for TELUS to Expand Wireless Service in Manitoba

TELUS is crossing the T on a deal to expand its wireless footprint in Manitoba following the acquisition of MTS by Bell.

The company has formally closed the deal to acquire one-quarter of Bell MTS’ postpaid wireless customers and 15 dealer locations. The deal is valued at approximated $300 million, and closed on April 1.

MTSWINNIPEG — The final stamp of approval is being put on the Bell-MTS acquisition at the federal regulatory level.

The Competition Bureau and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has approved the $3.9 billion deal, set to close on March 17.

CRTC Clears the Way for MTS-Bell Deal

MTSWINNIPEG — The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has approved the deal that will see Bell Canada take over MTS.

The CRTC’s decision is the first of three regulatory approvals required to complete the closing of BCE’s acquisition of MTS.

“We are pleased to receive the CRTC’s decision and will continue to work with Bell to obtain the two remaining regulatory approvals,” said MTS president and CEO Jay Forbes.

MTS Working on Wireless Outage Near the Airport

MTSMTS technicians are working to fix a service disruption near Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport.

A fire Thursday afternoon damaged a cellular tower at the airport, affecting customers in the surrounding vicinity. Disruptions include the inability to use wireless voice, text or data services. The outage is expected to last until sometime Friday at the earliest.

MTSMTS is reminding Manitobans about its Text with 911 (T9-1-1) service, which is available for the deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and speech-impaired (DHHSI) community.

“Two years ago, we were thrilled to be one of the first telecommunications providers in the country to make this free service available able to DHHSI Manitobans,” said Heather Tulk, chief customer officer with MTS.

As part of Bell’s takeover of MTS, the two companies will bring the ultra-fast Internet to Innovation Alley as the first location in the city.

Bell is also promising to have its high-speed LTE-advanced wireless technology in Winnipeg once regulators approve the deal between the two companies.
