Domestic Assault Leads to Marijuana Bust

A domestic assault investigation in Steinbach led to the discovery of a marijuana grow-op on Friday.

Police were called to a home to investigate a domestic incident when officers found the grow-op in the basement of the residence. Police obtained a search warrant and seized 65 marijuana plants.

Several children were also living in the home at the time and Child and Family Services was called.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the incident and police continue to investigate.

One Person Killed in Fiery Crash Near Brandon

RCMP Crest LogoOne person was killed Friday night after a two-vehicle crash north of Brandon on Highway 10.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. between a pickup truck and semi-trailer truck eight kilometres north of the Wheat City.

RCMP say the driver of the southbound pickup truck was pronounced deceased as a result of the head-on collision, while the semi driver hauling fertilizer wasn’t injured.

Minivan Driver Killed in Crash with Parked Semi

RCMP Crest LogoThe driver of a minivan was killed Thursday afternoon after colliding with a parked semi-trailer truck on Highway 1 just west of Kemnay, Manitoba.

The crash happened at the weigh scales just before 1:30 p.m.

RCMP haven’t released any further details and are continuing to investigate.

Police Targeting Impaired Drivers with RoadWatch Program

As the May long weekend draws closer, RCMP and Manitoba Public Insurance have launched their annual RoadWatch program to nab impaired drivers.

Police agencies across the province will take part in the third annual program, which has removed more than 600 drinking drivers off the road since it began. During Thursday’s launch near the weigh scales on northbound Lagimodiere Boulevard, RCMP charged three young adults with an open case of beer.

“RoadWatch complements the province’s strategy to get drinking drivers off the road,” said Justice Minister Andrew Swan.

East St. Paul Woman Killed in Crash with Semi

RCMP Crest LogoA 51-year-old East St. Paul woman was killed Wednesday night in a head-on collision on Highway 10.

RCMP say the woman driving an SUV pulled out to pass a semi-trailer truck when she collided with an oncoming semi while travelling southbound. The crash happened three kilometres north of Dunseith Port of Entry in the RM of Morton.

The woman was the sole occupant of the SUV and pronounced deceased at the scene. The 61-year-old Deloraine resident driving the semi was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the collision. The name of the deceased isn’t being released.

RCMP Seize Drugs in God’s Lake Narrows

RCMP Crest LogoRCMP have arrested a Gods Lake Narrows man in connection to drug trafficking in the community.

The 20-year-old was arrested Wednesday in Winnipeg and charged with the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of marijuana.

RCMP also seized 41 grams of cocaine and three ounces of marijuana.

The accused has been released and will appear in Winnipeg court on July 25.

Rural Field Fires Deliberately Set: RCMP

RCMP Crest LogoRCMP are investigating field fires in rural Manitoba that were deliberately set.

Police say a number of fires were reported Monday on the west side of St. Ambroise along Provincial Road 83 and 84 in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

The fires posed a risk to homes and structures around the community, according to police. No injuries were sustained as a result of the blazes.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner deemed that the fires were not accidental. Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP at (204) 857-4445 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Distraught Fairford Woman Drives Vehicle into River

RCMP Crest LogoA distraught woman who deliberately drove her vehicle into the Fairford River on Friday was rescued by RCMP.

Police say the woman left a home in Fairford on Friday at around 5 p.m. and drove to the Fairford bridge. When police attempted to make contact with her, she drove her vehicle off the roadway and into the water.

Mother, Son Killed in Crash Near Carman

RCMP Crest LogoTwo people were killed Friday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash just north of Homewood, Manitoba.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. on Road 18 West in the RM of Dufferin when an eastbound pickup truck pulling a trailer collided with a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero travelling south.

RCMP say the 27-year-old woman from Beausejour who was driving the Alero was pronounced deceased at the scene, along with her seven-year-old son.

Swan River Man Facing Child Porn Charges

RCMP Crest LogoA Swan River man has been charged after an investigation involving child pornography.

RCMP say the 30-year-old was arrested Thursday and has been charged with unlawful possession of child pornography, distributing child pornography, sexual assault, uttering death threats and drug possession.

The man remains in custody and will make a court appearance in Dauphin on May 6.

His name hasn’t been released.

Arborg Man Killed in Crash on Highway 7

RCMP Crest LogoA 76-year-old Arborg man was killed Thursday after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 just south of Arborg.

The collision happened at around 9 a.m. when the man’s 1994 Buick Century crossed into oncoming traffic after losing control. The southbound Buick was struck on the driver’s side by a northbound 2013 Ford Escape.

The driver of the Buick was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Head Shops Raided Over Counterfeit Items

Three Winnipeg head shops were raided Wednesday after a RCMP investigation, but it’s not for the reason you may think.

RCMP and Winnipeg police raided The Joint’s three city locations on St. Mary’s Road, Pembina Highway and Marion Street.

Police say the investigation centred around copyright infringement with trademarks belonging to Angry Birds, Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera and Nintendo.
