The ribbon has been cut on Manitoba’s newest regional hospital.

The Selkirk Regional Health Centre officially opened Thursday, showcasing its 180,506 square-foot facility that created two times the health-care space compared to its previous centre.

A marvel of modern architecture with plenty of natural light and brushed silver-looking fixtures and accents is how one would easily describe the first impressions of the new Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

The new facility at 120 Easton Drive replaces the former Selkirk and District General Hospital by double its size at 180,506 square feet.

A 66-year-old Selkirk man is lucky to be alive after falling approximately 35 feet down an embankment into the Red River on Friday.

The man was operating a riding lawn mower at the time when it fell off the edge of his property and into the water.

SELKIRK, Man. – Four teenage boys have been charged with arson in a fire that destroyed a popular Manitoba paddlewheeler that plied the Red River for decades.

The Paddlewheel Princess was used for riverboat tours, but the owner sold it last year when he retired.

Selkirk Homeowner Not Seriously Hurt in Home Invasion with Gun-Wielding Suspect

RCMP Logo VehicleA homeowner in Selkirk, Manitoba wasn’t seriously hurt when a man brandishing a gun and an edged weapon broke into his home on Tuesday night.

RCMP say the break-in on North Dominique Drive happened at around 11:35 p.m. when the intruder forced his way through the back door. The homeowner was hit and had demands made against him, but the attacker left empty-handed a few minutes later.
