The death of legendary Winnipeg-born game show host Monty Hall is being mourned by the charity that made him a chairman for life.

Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba, says Monty and his wife, Marilyn, committed a lifetime of involvement with the organization.

Jerry Maslowsky passed away last September, leaving behind a legacy in the community as a champion of several meaningful initiatives, including his most recent work as leader of the children’s charity for the last two years of his life.

A boat owned by the family of Winnipeg-born Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is going up on the auction block for a worthwhile cause.

The 1935 Cossey Replica boat will be auctioned off by Adesa Auctions on Tuesday, with proceeds benefiting Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba, as part of their Bids for Kids program. Funds raised will support the organization’s Come One-Come all Gala.

The boat packs a 250 horsepower 327 Chevy V8 engine with leather upholstery, and is trimmed with rare chrome hardware.

‘Heartbeat’ Documentary Takes Viewers Back to Variety Manitoba’s Infancy

Variety, the Children’s CharityA newly-produced documentary is celebrating the past, present and future of Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba.

“Heartbeat, A Legacy of Love” was written, produced and directed by Dwight Iwan.

“This is must see for anyone who watched the annual Variety telethon back in the 1980’s and 90’s. Variety’s impact on our community both philanthropically and culturally was huge and still is today,” Iwan said.

The documentary takes viewers back to the organization’s charter in 1978 to the creation of the locally-produced telethons on the old CKND television station (now Global Winnipeg), hosted by former broadcaster Stan Kubicek.
