Family Issues Plea for Information on Christine Wood, 21, Missing For Two Weeks

A Manitoba family says they are worried sick after their daughter disappeared two weeks ago in Winnipeg, and they’re hoping the public can help.

Christine Wood, 21, of Oxford House First Nation, and her parents were visiting Winnipeg while a relative went to a medical appointment. On August 19, Wood left her hotel room to go out for the night and never returned. She has not contacted family, and they say that is highly unusual for her.

With no leads, the family is now pleading with the public for someone to come forward with information.

Winnipeg Police CrestTwo people are in hospital in serious condition after being shot while in a car Sunday morning.

Winnipeg Police said at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday two people were shot in a car while on Magnus Street near Aikins Avenue. The driver managed to get the two adults to the hospital while a youth inside the car also sustained injuries.

Winnipeg police have identified the victim in a house fire on Pritchard Avenue Monday.

Police say Justin Harvey Chezick, 42, was discovered dead in the house in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue after the fire was extinguished.

Winnipeg police are hoping that by releasing more photos in the Thelma Krull case, it will give them a fresh lead.

Police released three photos Monday in the hopes the people in them will be identified. Similar photos released last week showed two people on bicycles, and those people have been identified.

Winnipeg Police Warn of Phone Scam Involving “Taxation Canada”

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police say they have seen a spike in a number of telephone scams that try to get victims to send gift cards to pay off a fake debt.

Police said the basic scam involves “a suspect calling the victim and claiming to be an associate with ‘Taxation Canada’ and that a large sum of money is owed in taxes. The victim is requested to make payment in the form of gift cards in order to clear up the fictitious outstanding amount.”

Police said anyone who receives this kind of phone call should not talk to the callers or send payment.

Police said they received numerous calls about a man who was in the Red River near the Provencher bridge at about 9:30 p.m on Wednesday.

Several units rushed to the scene but were unable to find the man.

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police are investigating after a woman was groped on a Winnipeg Transit bus Monday.

Police said a woman was traveling on a bus eastbound on Portage Avenue  at Rita Street at about 4:15 p.m. when a man sat down beside her.

The man then reached over and touched her inappropriately, said police. She was not hurt and she immediately informed the bus driver what had happened.
