Man Found with Knife, Screwdriver and Ammo Behind Portage Place

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — One of two men causing a disturbance behind Portage Place on Friday afternoon has been arrested and faces a list of charges.

Downtown Watch members notified police at around 1:30 p.m. and officers quickly responded. They found the two men to be intoxicated and identified one of them as having an outstanding warrant and bound by two probation orders.

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — Police are investigating after an 8-year-old boy was approached by a suspicious man while walking to school this week in the Valley Gardens area.

The boy was approached two separate days near the intersection of Kullman Street and Snowden Avenue. He was offered a ride by a man driving a black Ford Windstar van.

WINNIPEG — The remains of a 42-year-old woman have led to charges being laid against three of her roommates.

Winnipeg police say the body of Jennifer Barrett was found badly decomposed in a barrel filled with chemical agents on the property of a Waverley Heights home on December 1, 2016.

Winnipeg police have released surveillance photos of a man accused of stealing a woman’s purse from a fast food restaurant on January 27.

The victim — a woman in her 50s — was dining in the 1100 block of Main Street at around 7:40 p.m. when her purse was grabbed by a male suspect. He fled the area before police could arrive.

WINNIPEG — A 22-year-old man has been formally charged with second-degree murder after a Winnipeg bus driver was stabbed to death at the University of Manitoba on Tuesday.

Irvine Jubal Fraser, 58, died after succumbing to his injuries in hospital shortly after the attack at 1:55 a.m.

Brian Kyle Thomas also faces charges of possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order.
