CBC Axes One Daytime Program, Puts Another on Ice

March 11, 2009 7:14 AM | News

CBCYour daytime television lineup just got a little tweaking. The CBC announced on Tuesday that it would be putting “Steven and Chris” on hiatus next season. Production on the daytime lifestyles program will conclude on April 15, 2009.

“Fashion File” was also another program to receive some disheartening news. Production will conclude on March 31, 2009, without a return next season.

Why all the changes? Take a guess.

“Regretfully, as a result of our current financial situation, we have had to make the difficult decision that the show will be on hiatus next season,” says Kirstine Layfield, executive director of network programming, CBC Television. “This is no reflection on either the hosts or the program; the show has seen increased viewership over the past year and Steven and Chris have a terrific relationship with their live studio audiences; we very much hope to continue to work with Steven and Chris in the future.”

The network also said it plans on retaining the “Fashion File” brand in other ways across various platforms in the future.
