An open house was held Wednesday on the re-development of the Kenaston Boulevard area in preparation for IKEA. A few hundred people came out to J.B. Mitchell School to have a look at the developer’s plans regarding the retailer’s layout, traffic congestion and other development.
The Swedish furniture giant will be 1.5 million square feet when it’s complete. Just to compare, Polo Park Shopping Centre is 1.2 million square feet.
The most discussed issue from my standpoint was traffic in the area. I took out my Flip Mino camera and shot a short video below of one concerned resident sharing his thoughts with a rep from MMM Group.

A formal public hearing into the development will take place at City Hall beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18.
