Manitoba Gets New Toy to Assist River Ice Breakup

The Province of Manitoba showed off some of their new equipment on Tuesday to break up ice jams on the river this spring. The beast below will be used to cut the ice so it doesn’t jam and cause flooding.

Icebreaking Machines

Manitoba currently uses Amphibex icebreaking machines (lower right) on the river to break up ice jams. They are already hard at work in the Selkirk area.
