Gennadi Belinov took a good long look at the self-serve Ticket Checker’s screen when he scanned his LOTTO 6/49 ticket on Thursday evening. It read $1,979,992.00
Gennadi is a truck driver who immigrated to Canada five years ago. “I thought, ‘What are all these numbers?’ So, I took it to the clerk and asked if she could check the ticket through her machine. Then the machine said ‘Woo Hoo’, and people in the store started screaming,” Gennadi recalled. The ticket was purchased at the Red River Co-op gas station at Brookside and Route 90 in Winnipeg. Despite his newfound wealth, Gennadi said he intends to keep his job as a truck driver and operator. “What else would I do?” he asked. “I need to show an example to my children.”
As for how the money will be spent… Gennadi added with a smile, “My wife has lots of plans.”
