Canada’s public broadcaster announced on Wednesday it would be slashing 800 jobs in order to cut costs. The CBC is reducing its workforce across Canada, which is expected to save it $171 million amid sinking advertising revenues.
Approximately 396 jobs will be lost in the English service, 336 in the French service, and 70 corporate service positions.
The CBC also has plans to sell $125 million in assets to balance its budget.
Top executives at the network will be subjected to a salary freeze.
