The City of Winnipeg responded to river ice conditions on Saturday. Currently the Red River sits at 16.7 feet James. If the ice does not move out of the city and the Floodway is not operational by Friday, April 3, a peak of 20.5 James Avenue datum could occur.

The Province indicated that ice jams are possible within the city and can cause a rapid and unpredictable increase in local water levels. Because of that possibility, the City has notified about 80 homeowners that they may be at risk.

The City of Winnipeg will activate 33 pumping stations and about 220 flood control gates. 35 temporary pumps will also be deployed.
