Goldeyes Add Three Pitchers for 2009 Season

Matt Davis - Winnipeg GoldeyesWinnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced Monday the signing of right-handers Matt Davis (left), Andrew Cruse and Jordan Stewart. There are now 20 players on the pre-season roster, 12 of whom are pitchers.

Davis, 27, returns to Winnipeg following a year in the White Sox system, where he went 4-2 with four saves and a 5.57 earned run average in 38 games with Winston-Salem of the Carolina (A+) League.

Cruse, 24, arrives following three seasons in the Philadelphia system. Able to do double duty, he is 13-12 with a 3.18 ERA as a starter, fanning 142 while walking just 53 in 201 innings.

Stewart, 25, pitched the last two years exclusively out of the bullpen in the Texas system. He went 5-7 with 11 saves and a 4.88 ERA last year for Bakersfield, leading the California (A+) League with 35 games finished.

Training camp opens May 1 at Canwest Park.
