On Monday at 7:30 a.m. the province opened up its online Manitoba Provincial Parks Reservation Service for camp sites. Believing most Manitobans are tired of this dreaded winter weather (I know it’s spring), there was a surge in bookings that set a record before noon.
9,194 reservations were made in just under 5 hours, which is up 15% from the same time last year.
There were improvements made to the system this year, after users faced downtime while attempting to reserve spots last year. In 2008, a total of 55,298 reservations were made through the system, which continues to be the most popular way to book a camp site. For those users who still wish to speak to an agent, reservations are also taken via phone.
