WestJet Airlines unveiled a new campaign on Tuesday to showcase why it’s better than Air Canada. The airline rolled out some “care-antees”, which include a cash-back guarantee for a cancellation made within 24 hours of booking it. WestJet is also willing to shell out meal vouchers for passengers delayed by more than two hours and hotel rooms for those delayed overnight.
Already included in the airline’s outstanding service is the ability to check two bags free of charge.
WestJet hopes to gain more share with these changes, and eventually take the majority of the Canadian airline market.
But the new guarantees aren’t without risks. WestJet incurred $5.3 million in additional expenses late last year due to storms in Vancouver, including picking up the tab for meals, hotels, ground transportation and charters for its affected customers.
