The Winnipeg Goldeyes will open training camp on Friday with 27 players.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney has announced that catchers Kevin Reimer and Ryan Richardson and pitcher Josh Sawatzky have been invited to training camp. The trio received the invite following Tuesday’s closed tryout at Canwest Park, attended by 15 players, most of them from Manitoba with others coming from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.
Reimer and Sawatzky, both 23, are no strangers, as the two were teammates last season at Canisius College in New York. Richardson, 27, drove up from Arizona and returns to baseball following a six-year absence from the game. He last played as a junior at Oklahoma back in 2003.
Workouts will begin Friday and are open to the public. They will run most days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
