The Winnipeg Goldeyes have narrowed down their roster to 22 players in preparation of their season opener this Friday in Kansas City. The team is made up of both seasoned veterans and fresh-faced rookies this time around.
Manager Rick Forney made the announcement late Tuesday and said the players are evenly split between pitchers and position players.
Forney released pitcher Josh Sawatzky, catchers Kevin Reimer and Ryan Richardson and placed pitcher Matt Spade on the Disabled List. While not on the active roster, Richardson opted to remain with the club to act as its bullpen catcher.
Following their games in Kansas City, the Goldeyes head for Fargo for three games to conclude a six-game road trip, returning to Canwest Park next Friday for their home opener against those same T-Bones. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are still available.
