City of WinnipegAs with any long weekend, regular working hours and activities are affected somewhat. All City of Winnipeg civic offices are closed Monday, May 18, 2009.

Water and Waste

Changes to Recycling/Garbage Collection on Monday, May 18, 2009

Single-family Homes

  • There will be no recycling or garbage collection on Monday, May 18, 2009.  Collection will resume on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 – Day 4 on the five-day cycle.

Multi-family Apartments

  • Recycling and garbage collection will continue as normally scheduled.

Hours of operation for the Brady Road Landfill during the holiday weekend:

Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday, May 18 – 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Monday, May 18, 2009, Winnipeg Transit will be operating on Sunday schedule.

All libraries are open on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The Millennium, St. Boniface, and Sir William Stephenson branches are open on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Swimming Pools

All pools are closed on Monday, May 18, 2009, except the Pan Am Pool. The Pan Am Pool is open 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Regular hours of operation are in effect for all pools on Saturday, May 16, 2009 and Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Leisure Centres

All Leisure Centres are closed Monday, May 18, 2009. Regular hours of operation are in effect on Saturday, May 16, 2009 and Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Golf Courses

All municipal courses are open from dawn to dusk over the long weekend. Call now to book your tee times.

Animal Services Agency

Animal Services will be closed Monday, May 18, 2009. Regular weekend hours are in effect for Saturday, May 16, 2009 and Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Public Works

Bike Paths

The City’s four popular roadway bike paths will open for the season on Sunday May 17, 2009.

The paths (detailed below) located on Wellington Crescent, Wolseley Avenue, Scotia Street, and Lyndale Drive will be closed to vehicular through traffic from approximately 8:00 a.m. to dusk, every Sunday and Statutory Holiday until early October.

Public Works would like to remind motorists that local traffic only is permitted on these roadways when the bike paths are in operation and the department urges those motorists to be vigilant in watching for cyclists and pedestrians on the roadway. Similarly pedestrians and cyclists must be alert to local vehicular traffic.


Wellington Crescent – between Academy just west of Maryland Bridge to Academy just east of Beaverbrook.
Wolseley Avenue – from Raglan Road to Maryland.
Lyndale Drive – Entire Length
Scotia Street Area – from Anderson at St. Johns south to St. Cross, north to Cathedral, east to Scotia, north to Forrest, west to Ord and north to Newton.
